High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a very popular way to get in shape because you can get the same results in a shorter time. At MUV, we use a 2:1 work to rest ratio because Dr. Tabata researched various protocols for HIIT and discovered that the 2:1 ratio is the most effective. Some studies indicate that it can increase your metabolism for up to 36 hours after only a 4 minute workout!
Our HIIT class is 20-30 minutes long, depending on the movements for the day. We warm up by practicing each of the movements at a relaxed pace a few times to learn the patterns. Following this is a 4 minute round of HIIT, using the same movements. 20 seconds doing a move as hard as you can, then 10 seconds rest, for 8 rounds. After that, we’ll cool down with selected yoga poses and other stretches to minimize muscle tightness.
